University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout
Joe Marlow has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for his efforts in the month of May.
Marlow, a 6-4 senior from Kennesaw, Ga., went 2-0 for the Pacers and helped guide the team to a berth in the NCAA Southeast Region Championship.
He got the starting nod on Senior Day against Catawba. Against the Indians, he went seven innings. Marlow gave up one run on six hits while striking out five en route to the win.
He got the start against Flagler in the PBC Tournament and worked seven strong innings. Marlow gave up two runs on nine hits while striking out six. He did not get a decision in the contest.
In the NCAA Tournament, Marlow hurled the first game for USC Aiken and tossed a complete game. He struck out four while scattering 11 singles. It marked the first complete game he worked since he arrived on campus.
Marlow got the starting nod in the NCAA Southeast Region Championship and tossed six innings. He struck out 10 while walking just one. Marlow gave up two runs and ended up not getting a decision in the game.
For the month, he struck out 25 batters and walked four. Marlow gave up six runs on 30 hits while limiting opponents to a .265 batting average.
The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2015-16 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
