University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout Mitch Spence has been named the Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto-Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Apr. 22, 2018.

Spence, a sophomore pitcher from Cary, N.C., tossed an absolute gem in Friday night’s 5-0 victory over Lander.

He gave up just one hit and three walks while striking out 12 batters in the complete-game effort. Spence’s one hit allowed came with two outs in the first inning. After that, he allowed only three baserunners the rest of the game.

With the win, Spence picked up the first complete-game shutout in league play this year. He moved into 10^th place in the PBC currently with five wins on the season while his 87 strikeouts are fourth most in the conference.

The Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto-Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week honors one student-athlete each week from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
