AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout
Joel Haney has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Student-Athlete of the Month for March.
Haney, a sophomore from Rock Hill, S.C., went 2-1 on the month in four games.
He started the month with a complete-game shutout win at Georgia Southwestern. He struck out seven and walked just one in win. Against Columbus State, Haney was sensational. He struck out a career-high 12 batters and surrendered just a first-inning single in the complete-game shutout.
After an outing at Georgia College, Haney was solid in his time on the mound at Flagler. He worked six innings and gave up just two earned runs. However, he did not factor into the decision in the 7-6 victory.
For the month, Haney sported a 0.96 ERA with a pair of complete games and two shutouts. He limited opponents to a .190 batting average and had a team-high 25 strikeouts in 28 innings of work.
Spanning late February to mid-March, Haney recorded 35 consecutive innings without allowing a run, which is believed to be a school record.
During his run, Haney picked up PBC Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA Region Pitcher of the Week honors.
The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2021-22 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
