AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball standout Alie Smith has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Student-Athlete of the Month for March.
Smith, a 5-10 outside hitter St. Johns, Fla., guided the Pacers to a 7-3 month.
She picked up PBC Player of the Week honors twice during March. Smith leads the PBC with 189 kills while hitting .211. Her 5.25 kills per set and 5.79 points per set rank first in Division II (for those who have played more than 10 sets).
Smith slammed home a career-high 31 kills in the win at Francis Marion. She garnered 30 kills in the win at UNC Pembroke while hitting .308. Smith accounted for 20 kills in the victory at Lander. In all, she registered three matches of at least 20 kills while hitting double figures for kills in nine of the 10 matches.
Smith has five double-double efforts on the season, including a 19-kill, 20-dig effort against Flagler. Her five aces in the win over the Patriots marked a season high.
During March, Smith became just the fifth USC Aiken standout to register 1,000 career kills and digs in the program’s Division II history.
The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2020-21 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
