AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team is third in the Southeast Region as part of the second round of NPI rankings released by the NCAA Monday.
The NCAA Power Index, or NPI, is the ranking system used to evaluate team performance. NPI combines game results, the strength of opponents and any sport-specific dials to calculate a team's NPI value and ranking. Each match receives a value based on the result of the contest and the opponent's NPI.
NPI Rankings are used to help select the most eligible and deserving teams for the NCAA Tournament in late November. In the Southeast Region, teams from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas, and Peach Belt all receive one automatic bid for the winner of the conference tournament.
From there, the NCAA will select teams to fill out the 8-team regional with help from NPI calculations. Whatever team has the highest NPI in the region will have hosting rights.
