AUGUSTA, Ga. – USCA softball standouts
Autumn Fisher and
Kate Newberry have been named to the PBC Preseason All-Conference Team, as announced by the league office.
Fisher, a shortstop from Inman, S.C., garnered second-team all-PBC honors as a freshman. During her standout season, Fisher batted .349 while starting 48 games. She accounted for 51 hits, including 11 doubles, three triples and five round-trippers. Fisher had 22 RBI and crossed home 31 times while slugging .568. She notched 12 multi-hit games.
Newberry, a second baseman from Watkinsville, Ga., picked up first-team all-PBC honors as a sophomore. She started 51 games and hit .386. Newberry led the team with 59 hits, including 13 doubles and 10 home runs. She drove in 43 runs, slugged .667 and scored 25 times. Newberry had 13 multi-hit contests and tallied 12 multi-RBI games. She's tied for fourth on USCA's career home run list with 21.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team was selected sixth in the preseason poll with 44 points. North Georgia was picked to finish first with 76 points. Flagler (69 points) and GCSU (62 points) were second and third, respectively. Georgia Southwestern (55 points) and Columbus State (49 points) were fourth and fifth. The Pacers were followed by Lander (41 points), USC Beaufort (26 points), Augusta (19 points) and Middle Georgia (9 points).
