Each week, USCA will post notes.
Newberry Thrives In Aiken
Kate Newberry has been consistent during her one-plus years at USCA. Newberry was tremendous once again, belting three home runs against Flagler. She recorded dingers in every contest of the three-game sweep. Seven of her nine round-trippers this year have come in front of the home fans.
Baker's Cookin'
Payton Baker tossed a complete game against Flagler. She gave up three runs, none of which were earned, on five hits. Baker struck out four and walked just one in the 6-3 victory.
Hensic's Homer
After allowing a pair of unearned runs in the sixth to fall behind 3-2,
Ashlyn White led off the seventh with a double down the left field line and moved to second on an
Autumn Fisher 0-2 single. With two on,
Lydia Johnson reached on a throwing error to load the bags. Two batters later,
Mallory Shaver reached on a fielder's choice, but it erased a runner.
Kaliyah Hensic blasted an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall for a walk off grand slam.
Ashlyn's Awesome Play
In game two against the Saints, Flagler looked to tie the game in the fifth stanza. Holding a 2-1 lead, the visitors tried to score from second on a single to right field. However,
Ashlyn White had other ideas and promptly rocketed home a throw that got the base runner out by several steps, keeping the one-run lead.
Fisher Foils The Plans
Trailing 5-4 in the fourth inning,
Alexis Stout entered as a pinch hitter and smacked a double to left field. After
Madison Rogers singled,
Ashlyn White was hit by a pitch to load the bags. Two pitches later,
Autumn Fisher rocketed a pitch down the left field line off the foul pole for a grand slam. It marked her fourth homer of the season and her first career grand slam.
Lydia Legs Out The Triple
In the sixth inning of game two, sophomore
Lydia Johnson easily legged out a triple to the gap in right center field with the Pacers holding an 8-6 advantage. Two pitches later,
Kate Newberry lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, knocking in Johnson for a three-run cushion.
Get The Brooms Out!
Last weekend, USCA swept No. 20 Flagler. It marked the first three-game sweep at the new facility. Additionally, it was the first three-game sweep of an opponent in Aiken, S.C., since sweeping USC Beaufort March 10-11 a season ago.
The Last Time
With three wins at Lander and three victories over No. 20 Flagler, the six straight league wins marked the first time the Pacers have swept back-to-back league series since moving to a three-game set. It also marked the first time the program has won back-to-back series over PBC teams since March 14 and March 18, 2017. USCA won four straight games and that was over Flagler and Montevallo. The last time the program won six straight PBC regular-season games was Apr. 12, 2014 (Senior Day doubleheader vs. Georgia College), Feb. 22, 2015 at Lander and March 8, 2015 against Montevallo.
