GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The No. 7 University of South Carolina Aiken golf team stands in 19
th place after the first day of competition at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional.
Head coach
Michael Carlisle's team shot 29-over par, 605, through the first 36 holes of competition. After shooting 11-over par, 299, through the first 18 holes of play, the squad notched an 18-over par, 306, Friday afternoon in the second round.
Top-seeded North Georgia leads the field at 12-under par, 564. Coker, Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern and Saint Leo round out the top five teams in the tournament.
Sixteen teams in the field are in the national rankings, including six that are in the top 10 nationally.
Erik Olin leads the way for USC Aiken. He stands at two-over par, 146, and is tied for 28
th place.
Rory McDonald O'Brien and
Gage Weeks each shot eight-over par, 152, on Friday. Weeks shot a 74 for the first round while McDonald O'Brien's best 18 holes also came in the opening round with a three-over par, 75.
