NEWTON, N.C. – The No. 7 University of South Carolina Aiken golf team stands in 10
th place after the first day of competition at the Wofford Invitational.
Head coach
Michael Carlisle's team took part of the event, which is hosted by Catawba Country Club. It is a par-y, 6,683-yard course in Newton, N.C.
USC Aiken shot 35-over par, 595, over the first 36 holes of competition.
Erik Olin and
Jonah Winter tied for best on the team after the first day. Both shot eight-over par, 148. Olin tallied back-to-back scores of 74 while Winter notched scores of 75-73.
Rory McDonald O'Brien was one stroke behind the two. After firing an opening-round 79, McDonald O'Brien registered an even-par, 70. He is tied for 37
th.
Oscar Abrahamsson is tied for 55
th after shooting 12-over par, 152.
Richmond leads the field at seven-over par, 567. South Carolina and Davidson are second and third, respectively, in the 13-team field. The Gamecocks shot 10-over par, 570 while the Wildcats posted a 12-over par, 572, on the first day of competition. USC Aiken is the lone Division II team in the field.
