Men's Basketball | March 05, 2024
Each week, USC Aiken will post notes. This week, the Pacers play on Wednesday, March 6. The team could also play on Thursday, March 7 and Saturday, March 9.
He Did It Again!
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice picked up his second consecutive regular-season championship at the helm of the Pacers. The 70-65 win at North Georgia put the team in sole possession of first place before the team bested Lander in the regular-season finale for the No. 1 seed. It marked the second consecutive season the Pacers clinched the regular-season PBC title, marking the first back-to-back years for the program since the 2012-13 and 2013-14 campaigns.
Closing Out The Game In Style
Tied at 61-61 with 4:51 to play in the game at North Georgia,
Jalen McCoy gave the Pacers the lead for good with a free throw at the 3:46 mark.
Tyler Johnson added a bucket before finding McCoy for a basket. Johnson hit another jumper and
Simeon German made two free throws, securing 70-65 victory for sole possession of first place.
Rideout's Big Half
Jameel Rideout has had a solid season, but his first half against Lander arguably had to be his best half of basketball since his arrival on campus. Rideout erupted for 21 points on six-of-10 shooting in the game, including four-of-six from downtown. For good measure, he hit all five charity tosses in the period, snagged two boards, had two steals and dished out an assist.
Rewriting History
With his final basket of the regular-season finale victory over Lander, senior
Tehree Horn established a USC Aiken Division II school record for career points with 1,523, surpassing Kendrick Smith's 1,521 points from 1994-1998. Ironically enough, on the regular-season finale a season ago, Horn picked up his 1,000
th career point.
