KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of South Carolina Aiken's
Tyler Johnson, Jalen McCoy and
Mark Vanderslice have been honored by the NABC.
The NABC announced the 2023-24 NABC Division II All-District Team and District Coaches of the Year. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division II.
Johnson and McCoy garnered second-team all-district honors while Vanderslice was named co-Coach of the Year in the Southeast Region.
They guided the Pacers to a 23-7 record on the year, including a 14-4 effort in PBC play, helping the program capture its second consecutive regular-season championship.
Vanderslice picked up his third PBC Coach of the Year honor, including his second straight one. He guided the Pacers to a first-place finish in the PBC after knocking off North Georgia and Lander in the final two games of the season. His 23 wins marked the third time at the helm of the program the squad has won at least 20 games. During the season, Vanderslice won his 300
th career contest.
Johnson, a native of Athens, Ga., averaged 16.7 points per game and was tabbed the PBC Player of the Year. The first-team all-conference selection snagged 6.7 rebounds per game. He dished out 62 assists and notched 56 steals. Offensively, Johnson hit 47.2 percent of his shots from the floor, including 39.2 percent from downtown. He made 81.1 percent of his free throws. Johnson erupted for a career-high 34 points in the win at USC Beaufort.
McCoy, a native of Raleigh, N.C., saw time in 20 games. Despite missing 10 games due to an injury, McCoy led the team by netting 18.7 points per game. He also snagged 5.6 rebounds a contest. An all-conference honoree, he earned PBC Player of the Week honors four times. McCoy erupted for 35 points in the win at Georgia College & State. He pulled down 10 boards in the win at Georgia Southwestern. In the NCAA Tournament game against Emmanuel, McCoy went nine-for-nine from the floor and hit eight free throws for a game-best 26 points.
