Taking Down No. 11
Last week, USC Aiken No. 11 Wingate 4-3 in eight innings.
Austyn Dixon doubled in
Jena Dewalt for the first run while
Kate Newberry plated Dixon to make it 2-0. After the Bulldogs scored a run in the fifth and one in the seventh, the teams went to the international tiebreaker rule. WU scored to make it 3-2 before Newberry ended the game with a walk-off two-run homer, driving in Dixon for the 4-3 victory.
Payton Baker tossed a complete game, striking out eight batters without allowing a walk.
Picking Up Conference Honors
Payton Baker and
Kate Newberry picked up PBC honors on Monday, March 11. Baker was named the PBC Pitcher of the Week while Newberry earned Freshman of the Week accolades. Baker went 2-0 on the week – with a victory over USC Beaufort. Newberry crushed a pair of homers, including a walk-off two-run shot – to go along with a five RBI week.
Sweeping The Sand Sharks
After weather pushed back the weekend series, USC Aiken completed a three-game sweep of USC Beaufort on Monday. The Pacers bested the Sand Sharks 4-1 in the opener behind a two-run homer from
Lydia Johnson to go along with a six-strikeout complete game from
Payton Baker. Johnson,
Austyn Dixon,
Skylar Morley and
Chloe Phillips had two hits apiece in the nightcap 9-0 run-rule victory. Dixon,
Cameron Greene and
Ashlyn White notched two RBI apiece while
Lakyn Phillips threw the complete-game shutout with four strikeouts.
Lakyn Phillips got the win in the series finale after going four innings with six strikeouts. Baker picked up her second save of the season after tossing the final three frames. She did not allow a run and scattered two hits while striking out three.

Since moving to Division II, the program is 235-204 (53.5 percent) in Saturday contests and 127-149 (46.0 percent) in Sunday affairs. During the same time, the program is 13-13 on March 16 and 6-8 on March 17.
