NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's cross country team, along with rookie Tess Studley, were recently recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Pacers were among the schools that were named to the all-academic team for the 2023 NCAA Division II season. Head coach Marshall Leonard's team recorded a team GPA of 3.305.

"It is commendable to express pride in the achievements of the women's team, particularly in their exemplary performances both athletically and academically," Leonard said. "Recognizing the dedication they exhibit toward their studies alongside their athletic pursuits underscores the importance of maintaining a balanced approach to collegiate life.

"It is indeed a matter of pride that the team has garnered recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for prioritizing academic excellence. Such acknowledgment underscores the team's unwavering commitment to maintaining a high standard of academic achievement alongside their athletic pursuits. This achievement reflects positively on the team's dedication to balancing academic rigor with athletic endeavors."

In order to qualify for all-academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet.

Additionally, Studley was named an all-academic athlete for the 2023 NCAA Division II season.

"Tess Studley has been an exceptional asset to our XC team, rewriting the record book for USC Aiken with her outstanding performances," Leonard stated. "Beyond her achievements on the course, she garnered recognition from the USTFCCCA for her dedication in the classroom. Tess exemplifies unwavering commitment and grit, evident in her daily efforts both on and off the cross country course. Her resilience and drive are qualities that inspire us all. We're proud to have her on our team, leading by example and setting the bar high for excellence."
