INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team is No. 3 in the latest NCAA Southeast Region Rankings, which were released Wednesday afternoon.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team sports a 21-5 overall record, which is the same as the squad's in-region mark.
Lander is first (20-6, 20-6) while North Georgia is second (19-5, 19-5) in the poll. The Pacers are followed by Lincoln Memorial (19-7, 19-6) and UNC Pembroke (21-5, 20-5).
Emmanuel (21-5, 19-5), Wingate (20-6, 20-6), Catawba (17-5, 17-5), Augusta (13-11, 13-11) and Carson-Newman (18-7, 18-7) complete the top 10 in the region.
The field for the Southeast Region is comprised of the conference tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference, as well as the top five teams in the region rankings who aren't tournament champions.
The national tournament selection criteria are based on in-region winning percentage, D2 winning percentage, D2 strength of schedule, D2 head-to-head competition, and results vs. common D2 opposition.
USC Aiken plays at North Georgia tonight before hosting Lander Saturday, March 2.
