USC Aiken Softball Notes - Week 5

SB_Week05_Notes_2024

Softball | February 27, 2024

Each week, USC Aiken will post notes. This week, the Pacers play at Erskine on Tuesday, Feb. 27 before hosting No. 1 North Georgia on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3.

Rewriting The Record Books

Last weekend, head coach Jaclin Poole's team adjusted the USC Aiken career record books with their stellar performances. Lakyn Phillips entered the record book for career wins (10th place) and appearances (10thplace). Payton Baker entered the record book for complete games (10th place). Offensively, Mallory Shaver entered the record book for RBI (10th place) and moved into a tie for fifth with KB Moore for career home runs. Jena Dewalt catapulted herself into eighth place for stolen bases while Skylar Morley is just two away from entering the record book.

Lydia Launches One

In the nightcap against Converse, rookie Lydia Johnson crushed her first career round-tripper. The two-run homer came in the third inning as she drove in Jena Dewalt. The blast gave the Pacers a 3-0 lead at that point.

Dixon's Hitting Dingers

Rookie Austyn Dixon entered Sunday's doubleheader against Claflin with two career home runs. She promptly doubled that output by hitting a dinger in each of the games. Dixon also hit home runs in wins over Newberry and Anderson earlier in the year. Her first round-tripper of the day helped her turn in a five-RBI performance in the 9-0 win.

Everyone Contributes

Head coach Jaclin Poole started a vastly different line-up in the second game against Claflin and the team produced a five-run first inning. Overall, 18 student-athletes saw time in the line-up. Eleven student-athletes managed to get a hit in the game while another scored a run.

Inside The Numbers

This week, the Pacers play at Erskine on Tuesday, Feb. 27 before hosting No. 1 North Georgia on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3. Since moving to Division II, the Pacers are 123-78 (62.1 percent) in Tuesday games, 235-202 (53.8 percent) in Saturday games and 125-148 (45.8 percent) in Sunday contests. During the same time, the program is 11-7 on Feb. 27, 17-3 on March 2 and 14-15 on March 3.

Against The Opponents

This week, the Pacers play at Erskine on Tuesday, Feb. 27 before hosting No. 1 North Georgia on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3. USC Aiken maintains a 31-9-1 lead over the Flying Fleet. The Pacers trail the all-time series 39-10 to the Nighthawks, but the Pacers took a game from UNG in the postseason a year ago.
