Each week USC Aiken will post notes. This week, USC Aiken hosts Converse on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Claflin on Sunday, Feb. 25.
She's Cookin'
Junior
Payton Baker threw an absolute masterpiece against Belmont Abbey. She tossed a complete game and gave up just one hit in the shutout. Baker struck out eight batters and did not walk anyone in the 3-0 victory.
Stepping Into Their Roles
In the sweep of Belmont Abbey, head coach
Jaclin Poole's freshmen stepped up big.
Lydia Johnson and
Chloe Phillips had a pair of hits in the opener and Phillips drove in a run. In the nightcap, Johnson and Dixon once again had two hits apiece. Dixon had two RBI while each student-athlete crossed home.
Phillips Powering Past Players
Junior
Lakyn Phillips turned in an outstanding performance in the win over the Crusaders. She recorded a complete game and gave up just one run on three hits. Phillips struck out 11 batters while giving up just one walk. The 11 strikeouts were the most for her in a game this season – and nearly doubled her strikeout total on the year (from 14 to 25 after the completion of Wednesday's game).
Taylor & Tara Coming Up Big
In the win at Anderson,
Taylor Butts and
Tara McGee came up big. McGee registered a pair of hits – both of which went for extra bases as a triple and double, respectively, while Butts picked up the game-winning RBI in the 10-inning affair.
Greene Day
In the nightcap at Anderson,
Cameron Greene made the most of her opportunity as a pinch hitter. With one away in the seventh inning, head coach
Jaclin Poole made the call and Greene stepped into the box. Greene unleashed a home run over the right center field fence, driving in
Ella Stone, who had walked, to knot the game at 5-5.

This week, USC Aiken hosts Converse on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Claflin on Sunday, Feb. 25. Since moving to Division II, the Pacers are 102-85-1 (54.5 percent) in Wednesday games and 233-202 (53.6 percent) in Saturday contests. During the same time, the team is 8-15 on Feb. 24 and 16-9 on Feb. 25.
