AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's cross country team registered a third-place finish at the Blue Bear Invitational Friday morning.
Johnson & Wales won the meet while Fayetteville State was second in the nine-team meet.
Head coach
Marshall Leonard's team was led by
Julio Rojas' fourth-place finish. He navigated the 8k course in 27:17.32. Fellow newcomer
Justin Kaimann was not far behind him, taking sixth. Kaimann garnered a time of 27:22.42 for his top-10 effort. Both student-athletes shattered the previous school record in the 8k of 27:50.82.
Julian Mendoza accounted for a top-20 finish after crossing the finish line in 31:34.58, which was good enough for 14
th place.
Teammates
Riley Campbell and
Tyler Blowe were close the entire race. Campbell posted a mark of 32:15.47 for 20
th place while Blowe was right behind him after completing the race in 32:30.
Julian Salas accounted for a 40
th-place effort after finishing in 36:06.11.
The Pacers return to action Saturday, Sept. 16 when they compete at the Converse Invitational.
