WXC_Week04_Notes_2023

Women's Cross Country | September 27, 2023

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's cross country team is set for the upcoming Akiah McMillan Invitational.

"The women have worked really hard and have had some outstanding practices, which has me excited to see it translate into great performances in the race," head coach Marshall Leonard said. "We discussed using that momentum of having great practices and riding that momentum throughout the season. Also, the location of this meet will be close, which gives family members and friends the ability to see them compete."

In addition to USC Aiken, the race will also include Allen, Augusta, Belmont Abbey, Claflin, Coker, the host Columbia College Koalas, Gaston College, Johnson & Wales, Lander, SCAD, Truett-McConnell, Tusculum and UNC Pembroke.

The team is coming off a 13th-place effort at the Converse Invitational on Sept. 16. Tess Studley continued to be the top finisher at each meet with her 41st-place finish in the 6k event. She posted a time of 24:45.5 for the second-fastest mark in school history. USC Aiken's second-fastest student-athlete through the first two meets – Taylor Joop – did not compete at the event.

Prior to the meet, the Pacers earned a regional ranking for the first time in school history.

The meet is slated to start at 8:15 a.m.
