Each week, USC Aiken will post notes. The Pacers compete in the Augusta Tournament. USC Aiken plays Montevallo and Mississippi College on Friday before taking on Valdosta State on Saturday.
Recapping Last Week
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team hosted the USC Aiken Invitational. The squad registered four wins, defeating Belmont Abbey (3-0), Lenoir-Rhyne (3-0), North Greenville (3-2) and Carson-Newman (3-0).Â
300 – It's Not Just A Movie
On Friday evening, head coach
Glenn Cox reached a career milestone. Already the winningest coach in program history, he earned his 300
thcareer victory with the school when his team swept Lenoir-Rhyne.
Mercer's Milestone
Senior
Kari Mercer continued her stellar career by reaching another milestone. In the weekend finale against Carson-Newman, Mercer recorded her 2,000
th career dig. She became the third USC Aiken student-athlete to do that in school history.Â
Playing Like An Upperclassmen
Lexi Rogers continued to impress during her solid freshman season. In the five-set victory over North Greenville, she recorded a career-high 18 kills while adding seven digs and three aces. Up by just a point in the fifth set, Rogers slammed the door on a pesky North Greenville team with the match-winning point.Â
Shining On The Court
Over the weekend,
Alli Bishop and
Rory Schuler each saw their first career playing time. Bishop hit .250 while Schuler had an ace.
Tucker Patterson and
Cat Bodick also saw time in the Belmont Abbey contest. Each notched kills in the win.
Sophie Meredith tallied a 17-assist, five-kill performance with an .833 hitting percentage against the Crusaders.Â
Pocket Full Of Aces
In the five-set victory over North Greenville, USC Aiken posted the second-most aces in school history. The squad served up 17 aces, including a career-high seven from
Sadie McKay. She started the match with five aces in the first 10 points of play.
Mallory Barash and
Lexi Rogers had three apiece while
Izabella De Lima added two.
Emily Lammers and
Rory Schuler had one ace each. Â
Inside The Numbers
This week, USC Aiken plays Montevallo and Mississippi College on Friday, Sept. 15 before playing Valdosta State on Saturday, Sept. 16. Since moving to Division II, the Pacers are 214-137 (61.0 percent) in Friday matches and 250-151 (62.3 percent) in Saturday contests. During the same time, the team is 4-1 on Sept. 15 and 7-6 on Sept. 16.  Â
Against The OpponentsÂ
This week, USC Aiken plays Montevallo and Mississippi College on Friday, Sept. 16 before playing Valdosta State on Saturday, Sept. 16. The Pacers trail the all-time series to Montevallo 11-10. Mississippi College leads the all-time series 2-0 but the teams have not met since the 1990's. USC Aiken and Valdosta State are tied 5-5 in the all-time series.Â
