AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is set for the season-opening Bearcat Fall Invitational Monday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 12 in Augusta, Ga.
Head coach
Michael Carlisle's team will consist of
Oscar Abrahamsson,
Matthew Baxley,
Mitchell McNeill,
Rory McDonald O'Brien and
Erik Olin.
A year ago, Olin led the Pacers with a 72.4 stroke average. He accounted for a pair of top-five finishes as well as a top-10 effort. He led the way with 13 rounds of par or better and notched a low round of 68.
Abrahamsson recorded a 74.0 stroke average last year. He had eight rounds of par or better, including a low round of 69.
McDonald O'Brien accounted for a 73.5 stroke average last year. He notched a top-10 effort and registered seven rounds of par or better. McDonald O'Brien's best round of the season was a 69.
The other two student-athletes that will represent USC Aiken in the line-up are newcomers. Baxley is a freshman from Beech Island, S.C. while McNeill is a sophomore from North Augusta, S.C.
Baxley was a three-time all-state selection and led his team to the Class 4-A state championship his senior season.
McNeill is a transfer from Tri-County Technical College. Prior to that, he earned all-state accolades at North Augusta H.S. A two-time all-region honoree, McNeill was the USA Today Augusta Area High School Boys Golfer of the Year his senior season.
