The first pitch is at 6:35 p.m. On Saturday, USC Aiken starts the weekend with a conference doubleheader against Claflin University. Game starts are 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The three-game series with the Panthers concludes on Sunday with first pitch at 1 p.m.
Recapping Last Week
Michael Holder's team is now 20-10 on the season and 12-3 in the PBC after going 1-3 last week. The Pacers fell to the Coker Cobras on Wednesday night before narrowly escaping their first sweep of the season to the bats of the Young Harris Mountain Lions.
For the four-game stint,
Joseph Mozingo went eight-for-14 for a .571 average including a run and four RBI.
Luke Parker had three doubles on six-of-16 hitting with two runs and an RBI.
Nick Tripp hit .333 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base.
Not Just a Closer
Dylan Wilhelm entered the final game of the weekend in relief of Parker in the eighth inning with the Pacers down 3-2. After reaching base on error, a sacrifice bunt earned the Mountain Lions their first out of the inning. A fly out and a swinging strikeout ended the visitors' threat.
Byrd's The Word
After starting in left field and already seeing the plate for four at bats in the weekend finale,
Justin Byrd moved to pitch the ninth. He silenced the Mountain Lions with three straight swinging strikeouts to pick up the victory.
Never Out Of The Fight
The Pacers found themselves tied 3-3 in the home half of the ninth.
James Eckert opened the inning with a double off the pitcher's glove to right center. A wild pitch sent him to third. The Mountain Lions then shifted their left fielder to help play the infield gap with the shortstop, leaving only two players in the outfield. Eckert scored the walk-off winning run on another wild pitch. For his efforts, Byrd earned his first win of the season.
