This week, the USC Aiken softball team hosts Georgia College in a three-game series beginning Saturday with a doubleheader before completing the set Sunday afternoon.
Recapping Last Week
USC Aiken went 2-1 last week after taking the series from USC Beaufort. The Pacers dropped a close one to open the series before powering past the Sand Sharks 11-1 in the second game. The squad bested USCB 6-5 in the finale for the series victory.
Taking The Series
After losing the first game of the series, USC Aiken rebounded for a pair of wins. The offense came out on fire in the second game of the doubleheader, pounding opposing pitching. The squad won a nip-and-tuck affair in the finale Sunday, plating the game-winning run in the sixth inning. The series saw several student-athletes perform well. The squad had a total-team effort to take the series.
Diggin' The Long Ball
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team dug the long ball in the second game against the Sand Sharks. In all, the team hit two homers in the game but five in the series.
Mallory Shaver belted a pair of the round-trippers – one in the first game and one in the second contest.
Impact Performance
Jessica Stanley has a tremendous story – overcoming adversity both on and off the court. After missing nearly a full season due to an injury, she returned at the start of this season only to miss more time with another injury. With her back in the line-up, the Pacers are hitting their stride during the middle portion of the slate.
Movin' On Up
It seems like every game USC Aiken student-athletes are rewriting the record book. After the three games against USC Beaufort,
Emily Ayers moved into a tie for fifth place on the all-time list for career home runs (17).
Holly Daum stands in sixth place for career sacrifice hits (24) while Ayers moved into ninth place for RBI (86). Daum is also tied with 14 student-athletes for sacrifice fly balls (4).
In the circle,
Lakyn Phillips moved into seventh place for career strikeouts (259). Defensively, Ayers is now sixth for putouts (604).
