AIKEN, S.C. – Former University of South Carolina Aiken softball head coach Jerry Snyder was recently inducted into the USA Softball of South Carolina Hall of Fame at the Mid Carolina Club.
He was one of five members in the 2023 Hall of Fame class.
"I'm extremely blessed to have been inducted into the USA Softball Hall of Fame," Snyder said. "It's been amazing to see the growth of softball in South Carolina since I began my career. I have so many fond memories of my student-athletes, assistant coaches and colleagues from my time at USC Aiken and I was blessed to have coached in the state at one institution for so long."
Snyder coached USC Aiken for 34 seasons. He led the Pacers to 793 victories, including 212 PBC wins. Snyder guided his student-athletes to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including his tremendous effort in 2016. After being the No. 7 seed in the PBC Tournament, an upset of No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic and No. 3 Young Harris allowed the Pacers to clinch the No. 6 seed in the regional.
Snyder guided four of his teams to the NCAA Tournament – in 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2016.
He coached PBC Player of the Year Jessica Strickland as well as PBC Freshmen of the Year Jami Cornwell, Jayme Durand and India Kornegay. Strickland was the first female student-athlete in USC Aiken's Division II history to garner All-America honors three times.
He was inducted into the USA Softball Hall of Fame along with Alleen Hawkins of Erskine, Ken Hopkins, Lou Gareis and Richard Lundy.
