Men's Cross Country | November 02, 2023
AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's cross country team is set to compete at the NCAA Southeast Regionals Saturday.
The race is hosted by North Georgia, which bodes well for head coach
Marshall Leonard's team.
"The men are excited to run at the NCAA Regionals, as this will be their first time running a 10k distance," Leonard stated. "It is over a mile longer than what they have been doing all year. They will have to adapt their racing strategy and stretch out their energy level. We are familiar with the course, as we ran there at the conference championships, so I think that will help as well."
The Pacers are led by the dyad of
Justin Kaimann and
Julio Rojas. Both have notched personal-best times multiple times this season, including Rojas' school-record effort for an 8k.
At the PBC Championship, senior
Riley Campbell accounted for a personal-best mark while taking 39
th.
Joey Burdick, who was saddled with an injury early in the season, notched a solid time at the conference meet just two weeks ago.
Elkana Kipchumba and
Julian Salas put forth solid outings in their last race. Salas, a senior, garnered a personal-best time at the PBC Championship, which should mean big things from him on the same course.
The Pacers are coming off a seventh-place finish at the PBC Championship.
The race is set to begin at 11:15 a.m.
