AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 24 University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is set for the upcoming Furman Intercollegiate, which takes place Oct. 22-23 in Greenville, S.C.
The event marks the last one of the fall slate for head coach
Michael Carlisle's team.
The team recently entered the top-25 for the first time this season after a fifth-place finish at the Cateechee Fall Invitational. The Pacers also garnered a third-place effort at the Bearcat Fall Invitational to open the season.
Carlisle's squad will consist of
Oscar Abrahamsson,
Justice Hartman,
Mitchell McNeill,
Rory McDonald O'Brien and
Erik Olin.
McDonald O'Brien leads the team with a solid 71.1 stroke average. He is coming off a third-place finish at the Cateechee Fall Invitational, which marked the best finish of his career. In three events this year, he has shot par or better six times and posted a career-low 67 during his last outing.
Olin is not far behind him with a 71.3 stroke average. Olin has a top-10 finish to his credit and has also shot par or better six times. His best round thus far is a 68.
Abrahamsson is averaging 71.4 per round. He leads the team with seven rounds of par or better on the year. Abrahamsson's best round is a 69.
McNeill has competed in two tournaments to date and sports a 73.7 stroke average. He has two rounds of par or better to his credit with a low round of 70.
Hartman has competed in a pair of tournaments as a Pacer. He accounts for a 74.2 stroke average. Hartman has been at or under par twice this season.
Campbell, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Davidson, Francis Marion, Furman, Gardner-Webb, High Point, James Madison, Presbyterian, Richmond, Texas A&M, USC Aiken, Western Carolina, and William and Mary will compete in the tournament as well as individuals from Wofford.
The Furman University Golf Course will play at par 71, 7,005 yards.
