PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 12-2 contest at UNC Pembroke Tuesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 19-25 on the season while the Braves improve to 33-13.
The Braves got on the board with two runs in the first.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team registered its first hit with a
Nick Tripp single through the left side to start the second inning. He moved to second on a
Dalton Graves base knock to left field. With one away, a groundout pushed both runners into scoring position. However, another ground ball out ended the frame.
UNCP notched a run in the third and three in the third for a 6-0 lead.
Tripp reached on a fielder's choice in the fourth but a double play ended the stanza.
The Braves struck for a run in the fifth and four in the sixth for an 11-0 working margin, but Holder's team broke through in the eighth.
With two down,
Jose Hernandez drew a full-count walk. A
Jeff Cyr single to left field put two on board.
Josh Sharp's double to the gap in right center made it an 11-2 contest.
For the game, Sharp led the way with a pair of hits, including a double, while driving in both runs. Cyr and Hernandez each crossed home. Graves, Cyr and Tripp all notched singles in the contest.
On the mound,
Grant Stanford got the start and had three strikeouts.
Peyton Boozer also struck out three.
Hunter Steger and
Dylan Wilhelm accounted for two strikeouts apiece while
Austin Hohm had one strikeout in the game.
