SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The No. 6 University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is in sixth place after the first day of competition at the Wofford Invitational.
UNC Wilmington leads the field at 19-under par, 557. Wofford and Appalachian State are tied for second at five-under par, 571. Mercer (+1, 577) and Kennesaw State (+3, 579) are fourth and fifth, respectively.
Head coach
Michael Carlisle's team is tied for sixth with Elon and Francis Marion. Both teams shot four-over par, 580. USC Aiken shot two-over par, 288, in each round.
On the par-72, 6,712-yard course,
Oscar Abrahamsson led the way in the opening round. He shot one-under par, 71, and was tied for 12
th.
Charlie Denvir,
Björn Rosengren and
Thomas Trowbridge all shot one-over par, 73, in the first round.
Leo Johansson's one-under par, 71, led the way for Carlisle's team in the second round of play. Abrahamsson shot an even-par, 72, during the second round. Once again, Denvir posted a one-over par, 73.
Through 36 holes, Abrahamsson is tied for 17
th at one-under par, 143. Denvir is tied for 33
rd at two-over par, 146. Trowbridge is a stroke behind him at three-over par, 147. He's tied for 39
th. Johansson and Rosengren are tied for 47
th at four-over par, 148.
There are 18 teams in the field. USC Aiken is the lone Division II program competing at the event (Francis Marion competes at the Division I level for golf).
