AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team recently continued their mission of giving back to the community.

Last week, head coach Jaclin Poole's team volunteered with Cheryl's Kitchen in Augusta, Ga.

"We teamed up with Cheryl's Kitchen out of Augusta, Ga., and were able to assist in the fight against child hunger," Poole stated. "We have decided as a program that giving back to the community that surrounds us is a pillar of what makes USC Aiken Athletics great. It's amazing to see the student-athletes get excited about volunteering."

Family YMCA of Greater Augusta is on a mission to ensure no child goes hungry. Cheryl's Kitchen Food Program combats child hunger by providing free meals and snacks to anyone under 18. The need is even greater this year due to camp and childcare closures related to COVID-19.

"Hunger has a lasting impact on the development of children," says Danny McConnell, President/CEO of the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta. "Giving kids access to nutrition-filled meals allows kids to focus, learn and become empowered to reach their full potential. The Y's Summer Food Program helps make sure kids can enjoy healthy and delicious meals and snacks all summer long."
