AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken, in conjunction with head women's basketball coach Mark Miller, is excited to announce the signing of three student-athletes for the upcoming 2022-23 academic year.

Mary Cartee, Annalise Malone and Hailey Unger will continue their athletic and academic careers at USC Aiken beginning next fall.

"We are very excited about having all three of these student-athletes join our team," Miller said. "I love their work ethic and their skill set. They will help build our depth and continue with the process."

Cartee, a 5-10 forward from Chelsea, Ala., led her team to the area championship. She guided her squad to its first Final Four in school history. The Chelsea H.S. product averaged 7.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists a game as a junior. Cartee also played AAU for Alabama Heat Elite.

"Mary is a well-rounded guard who loves to play defense and take charges," Miller stated. "She is a strong rebounder from the guard position. Mary prides herself on being a great defender. She has the ability to knock down the three-point shot as well as to take her defender off the dribble."

Malone, a 6-0 forward from Fayetteville, Tenn., was an all-district honoree as a junior. She averaged 14.5 points a game as a junior. As a sophomore at Lincoln County H.S., Malone accounted for 10.7 points a contest. She played AAU for Nashville Stars 2022 and helped the team win the Indy National Tournament and the Last Dance Tournament while averaging 11.7 points per game.

"Annalise is a very versatile forward who can play inside and out," Miller said. "She has the ability to shoot the three and score inside. Annalise is a tough-minded defender and rebounder."

Unger, a 5-8 guard from Arcanum, Ohio, was a two-time all-Ohio selection. The SW District Player of the Year as a junior, she earned all-conference accolades twice. A three-time SW District honoree, Unger holds the Arcanum H.S. record for three-pointers made in a season (72), three-point shots made in a game (8), steals in a season (115) and steals in a game (11). She averaged 16.4 points a game as a sophomore and played AAU for Dayton Lady Hoopstars Premier.

"Hailey is a smart IQ point guard who runs your team and has the ability to make others around her better," Miller stated. "She can shoot the three and be very crafty off the dribble."
