Two Net Double Figures At Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – The USCA women's basketball team lost a 64-51 contest at Clayton State Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers complete the season at 9-19, including 6-14 in PBC play.

Head coach Brittany Batts' squad was guided by Morgan McDermott's 15 points and seven rebounds. Zenia Palaska tallied 14 points and six rebounds. Mahkayla Premo had eight points and five boards to go along with three steals. Ioanna Stefanaki chipped in six points and dished out five assists.

Monique Emeliefonwu accounted for four points and seven blocks. Destiny Harman and Mackenna Nix chipped in two points apiece. Nix also snagged eight rebounds.

Down 9-1 in at the 5:00 mark of the first frame, Harman found Premo for a three-point bucket. Trailing 17-6, Nix found McDermott for a lay-up. She also buried a free throw with two ticks on the clock, making it 17-9 entering the second quarter.

Stefanaki connected on an inside shot to get the second frame started. Clayton state led 27-13 before Harman recorded an inside bucket at the 4:11 mark. With the score 29-15, Palaska converted an old-fashioned three-point play. Stefanaki hit a jumper and McDermott buried two free throws, making it 33-22 at halftime.

Stefanaki opened the second half with a lay-up. However, the Lakers embarked on an 11-0 spurt in just over two minutes before McDermott converted an old-fashioned three-point play. Premo made two free throws to make it 44-29. Moments later, Palaska netted four straight points. Premo, McDermott and Emelifeonwu all hit shots, slicing the deficit to six, 45-39. Clayton State made it 50-44 at the end of the third stanza.   

McDermott nailed a pull-up jumper at the 7:30 mark, cutting the deficit to four, 50-46. Clayton State went on a 10-0 spurt before Stefanaki found McDermott for a three-point basket. Premo hit a free throw with 4:26 to play, making it 60-49. Emelifeonwu buried two free throws, slicing it to 10, 61-51, at the 3:11 mark.  

For the game, USCA hit 18-of-55 from the floor, including two-of-17 from the three-point line. The squad buried 13-of-19 from the charity stripe. Batts' team held a 43-40 edge on the glass. The Pacers dished out eight assists and scored 30 points off the bench. USCA scored 12 points off miscues and netted 24 points in the lane. The team also tallied 14 second-chance points.
