Leisenring Inks Deal With Rockies

AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout Luke Leisenring has signed a free agent contract with the Colorado Rockies.

Leisenring, a 6-4 junior catcher from Golden, Colo., played two seasons for the Pacers after starting his career at Arizona State.

In the shortened 2020 campaign, Lesienring started every game while registering a .348 batting average. He led the team with four homers and scored a team-high 20 times. Leisenring also knocked in 12 runs on the year. He garnered 10 extra-base hits and posted a .623 slugging percentage.

As a sophomore in 2019, Leisenring started all 50 games and had six round-trippers. He accounted for 19 extra-base hits, 29 RBI and scored 42 times.

In the two seasons at USC Aiken, Leisenring tallied a .311 batting average, had a .465 on-base percentage and sported a .527 slugging percentage while starting all 70 games. Leisenring totaled 75 base hits, including 29 that went for extra bases.

"Even with the reduction to five rounds in the Major League Draft, the streak of players signing pro contracts continues at USC Aiken," head coach Kenny Thomas said. "Luke had been projected all along as a top 10 round pick and I know some teams had him as high as the sixth round. I'm so proud he got this well-deserved opportunity, especially with his home state team.

"I project Luke will have a great career," Thomas continued. "He's been a great player for USC Aiken and the Rockies signed a great switch-hitting young catcher."
