GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken golf team shot 15-under par in the final round of play en route to earning a come-from-behind victory at the 7
th Annual UNG Fall Invitational.
The Pacers posted wins at each of the two fall tournaments, having also carded a victory at the Camden Collegiate. It marks the first time the program picked up back-to-back wins to open a season since the 2005-06 campaign.
Head coach
Michael Carlisle's team shot 27-under par, 837, for the event. The squad trailed by seven strokes after the first round but trimmed the deficit to four strokes heading into the final round of play. The final round of 15-under par, 273, marked the lowest round of the tournament. USC Aiken's 11-under par, 277, second round was the second-lowest round of the event.
The 273 by USC Aiken established an 18-hole team record in the tournament's seven-year history.
Lincoln Memorial and Piedmont tied for second after shooting 20-under par, 844. Lee and North Georgia tied for fourth after shooting five-under par, 859.
Leo Johansson and
Gage Weeks each shot five-under par, 67, over the final 18 holes of competition.
Nicholas Poole registered the lowest round of his career, posting a four-under par, 68.
George Eubank shot one-under par, 71, for the third round while
Björn Rosengren shot two-over par, 74.
Johansson finished eighth in the tightly contested field. He shot 72-70-67, 209, for the event. Johansson shot seven-under par, finishing a stroke away from third place.
Rosengren narrowly missed a top-10 finish. His six-under par, 210, allowed him to place 11
th in the 92-person field.
Weeks, making his collegiate debut, earned a 15
th-place finish. After shooting a final round five-under par, 67, he completed the tournament with a four-under par, 212.
Poole's three-under par, 213, allowed him to earn a top-20 finish. He tied for 17
th, marking the second top-20 finish of his career.
Eubank shot five-over par, 221 and tied for 50
th.
