Top Moments Of 2018-19: No. 7 – Strong Run Propels Pacers To No. 5 Seed In PBC Tournament

Throughout the final two weeks of the regular season, USC Aiken was as hot as any team in the PBC. Head coach Mark Miller's team, which wrapped up the final 10 games of the regular season at 7-3, went 4-1 from Feb. 16 to March 2, securing the No. 5 seed in the PBC Tournament. The team went 2-1 on the road and was 2-0 at home during the stretch.

Below are the four recaps following each of the victories from the team.

AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team posted a 69-66 victory at Georgia Southwestern Saturday.

The Pacers are now 13-11 overall and 9-9 in league play. The Lady Hurricanes fall to 8-15 overall and 5-12 against conference competition.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Melyk Taouil's team-high 17 points on seven-of-12 shooting. Kyrie' Chandler and Sade Johnson each added 12 points while Kwajelin Farrar tallied 10 points.

Alex Canady and Johnson had eight rebounds apiece while Farrar snagged seven boards.

Farrar netted the first six points of the game for USC Aiken and the score was tied at 6-6. After a 9-0 run by the Hurricanes, Taouil connected on a lay-up, bringing the team within seven. Johnson pulled the Pacers within five on an inside shot with 2:44 to play in the frame. Trailing 20-10, Taouil made it an eight-point game heading into the second quarter.

Chandler opened things up in the second period with a shot from distance for a 20-15 score. Trailing 28-17, Miller's team embarked on a 15-5 spurt to end the half. During the run, Farrar hit a jumper and Canady made two charity tosses at the 3:17 mark to make it 28-21.

Down 31-21, Madison Williams connected for four of the Pacers' next six points. Canady hit a shot and Star Toomey made one free throw. Trailing 33-30, Taouil pulled USC Aiken within one at the break on a jumper.

Trailing 53-49 heading into the fourth quarter, Williams made it a four-point contest just 52 seconds in. However, the Hurricanes extended the lead to 11 at 62-51 with 7:12 to go.

From that point forward, Miller's team was in control. After trading buckets, Chandler's three-ball made it 64-56 at the 6:02 mark. Johnson hit back-to-back shots before Taouil's old-fashioned three-point play pulled the visitors within one at 64-63 with 3:08 to play.

Taouil snagged a rebound and Chandler's basket gave the Pacers a one-point lead. Johnson's bucket extended the margin to three, but the home team hit a lay-up to pull within one with 1:27 to go. With 31 seconds to play, Chandler was fouled and promptly hit two free throws.

After a time-out, USC Aiken forced the home team into a missed three-point shot and Farrar grabbed the board. The Pacers would not allow the Hurricanes to get another shot in the game, securing the three-point victory.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 29-of-67 from the floor (43 percent). Miller's team forced the home squad into 16 turnovers.

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team raced past UNC Pembroke by a score of 60-44 Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 14-11 on the year and 10-9 in league play. The Braves fall to 8-17 overall and 7-12 against PBC foes.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Kyrie' Chandler's team-high 15 points. Kwajelin Farrarnarrowly missed out on a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds while Melyk Taouil had an outstanding game off the bench with 13 points, eight rebounds and a game-best three thefts.

Tied at 2-2, Chandler buried a three-ball and Farrar followed it up with a jumper for a five-point margin. The squad extended the lead to seven at 14-7 on a three-ball from Alex Canady with 3:31 to go in the first quarter. Another shot from distance by Chandler pushed the advantage to eight heading into the second stanza.

Kanna Suzuki's three-point shot at the 7:33 mark of the second quarter made it 24-14. After the Braves cut the margin to six with 3:59 to go before halftime, Janae' Simpson hit a free throw. A pair of charity tosses from Melyk Taouil put the score at 30-21 for the Pacers. Simpson hit another free throw before Farrar and Chandler connected on field goals for a 36-21 margin with 59 seconds to play before the half. USC Aiken maintained a 36-23 lead at the break.

Miller's team controlled the third period. The team stretched the lead to 20 points when Chandler drilled another shot from downtown to make it 45-25. USC Aiken held a 49-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Pacers never let the visitors pull any closer than 14 the rest of the way. 

For the game, USC Aiken hit 20-of-52 from the floor (38.5 percent). The team out-rebounded the visitors 44-28. Miller's team dished out 13 assists and held an 18-8 edge in second-chance points. 

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit to knock off Augusta 63-55 Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 15-12 overall and 11-10 in league play. The Jags fall to 7-20 overall and 6-15 against conference foes. 

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Kyrie' Chandler's game-high 19 points. Kwajelin Farraraccounted for 15 points and 15 rebounds while Melyk Taouil came off the bench to hit for 10 points. Alex Canady and Madison Williams each dished out four assists. Canady also contributed nine points and nine rebounds. 

In the first half, USC Aiken trailed by as many as 16, but fought back to make it a 10-point contest at halftime. Williams buried a three-ball with 5:52 to go to make it 29-16. Down 31-16, Farrar hit a lay-up and Chandler made two charity tosses to pull within 11 at 31-20. Farrar's lay-up brought it to 35-25 at the half.

Miller's squad limited the visitors to a school-record tying three points in the third stanza. USC Aiken poured in 13 markers to tie it at 38-38 entering the fourth stanza. Canady got things going with a three-ball at the 7:55 mark. 

The Pacers pulled within six on a lay-up by Star Toomey. Moments later, another shot by Toomey pulled the home squad within three at 38-35. Canady's three-point shot with 35 ticks remaining in the quarter knotted it at 38-38.

USC Aiken reeled off the first six points of the fourth stanza – all of which came from Taouil. The Jaguars pulled within one at 46-45, but Farrar nailed a jumper to go up by two. The Pacers extended the lead to six again on another bucket from Farrar with 2:18 to go.

The Jaguars pulled within four at 56-52, but USC Aiken continued to bury foul shots en route to the victory.

For the game, USC Aiken held a 26-16 edge in the paint and outscored the visitors 11-2 in second chance points. USC Aiken canned 19-of-53 from the floor (35.8 percent) and made 20-of-29 from the charity stripe (69.0 percent). The squad held a 47-27 edge on the glass.  

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team notched a 66-53 victory at Young Harris in the regular-season finale.

The Pacers are now 16-12 overall and 12-10 in league play. The Mountain Lions conclude the season with a 6-22 mark and 4-18 ledger against conference foes.

Kwajelin Farrar led the way with a game-high 25 points to go along with a team-best 12 rebounds. Melyk Taouil accounted for 16 points and eight rebounds while Kyrie' Chandler tallied 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the victory.

After trailing by four at the break, head coach Mark Miller's team outscored the home team 25-12 in the third quarter to take control of the contest.

Farrar's two charity tosses with 8:46 to go in the third quarter knotted the contest at 30-30. Down 33-30, USC Aiken took the lead on a lay-up from Chandler. Madison Williams found Taouil for a three-point shot, pushing the margin to four at 37-33. Star Toomey made it a six-point contest with a pair of free throws at the 5:58 mark of the stanza. Alex Canady's shot from downtown extended the margin to 10 at 47-37 with 3:33 to play in the quarter.

Leading 51-45, Chandler made it an eight-point game with 9:08 to play in the contest. Taouil snagged a rebound and converted an old-fashioned there-point play for an 11-point advantage.

The Mountain Lions pulled within five at 58-53, but it was as close as they would get.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 19-of-55 from the floor (34.5 percent), including four-of-14 from downtown (28.6 percent). The squad got to the charity stripe 29 times and converted 24 attempts (82.8 percent). Miller's team held a commanding 49-38 edge on the glass. USC Aiken had a 24-12 edge in the paint.
