Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team split a pair of games at Claflin, falling 4-1 before posting a 6-2 victory in game two.
The Pacers are now 19-15-1 on the season.
USC Aiken's lone run in the opener came via a sacrifice fly from
Courtney Strauss. The long ball plated
Hayley Elkins to make it 3-1 in the sixth.
However, Claflin plated an insurance run in the bottom of the frame for a 4-1 edge.
Head coach
Jerry Snyder's team battled back in the seventh. With two down,
Hannah Price doubled to left center field and moved to third on a wild pitch. Elkins drew a walk, but a strikeout ended the contest.
For the game,
Brielle Jungblut and Price registered hits.
In the nightcap, USC Aiken broke open the scoreless game in the third inning. With one away,
Hanna Hyder reached on a dropped fly ball and hustled to second. Elkins walked with two away.
Magan Jean Thrower blasted a double to score Hyder for a 1-0 lead. A passed ball allowed Elkins to race home for a 2-0 advantage.
In the fifth,
Sydney Kate Murphy walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a fielding error for the 3-0 margin.
The visitors increased their lead to 6-0 in the sixth. Jungblut drew a lead-off walk and scampered to second on
Sarah Timmerman's single. With one down, Murphy belted a single, scoring Jungblut.
Murphy swiped second base. Elkins doubled home Timmerman and Murphy for the six-run advantage.
Chandler Terrapin tossed a complete game, striking out eight, for the win.
