EVANS, Ga. – Freshman
Keely Gillespiecontinued her tremendous freshman season by being chosen Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year on Saturday morning at the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Championship at Blanchard Woods Park. The championship is part of the inaugural Peach Belt Conference Fall Festival.
Gillespie finished the 2010 PBC Cross Country Championship in seventh place individually with a time of 25:21. The seventh place finish in the championship garners Gillespie (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta) first team all-conference accolades.
Senior
Nicole Maitland (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) finished the PBC Cross Country Championship in 34
th individually with a time of 27:27.
In total, USC Aiken had four runners in the top 50 individually with
Mathilde Grenet (Doumont, France/Lycee George Sand) and
Julia Van Vollenhoven (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) both capturing top 50 finishes. Grenet finished in 43
rd with a time of 28:08. Van Vollenhoven was just behind at 28:19.
USC Aiken as a team finished in eighth place with a total team time of 2:19:42.
Columbus State emerged as the winner of the event, claiming its sixth straight team championship with a total team time of 2:02:57. Two-time Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Year Brittney Skiles of Columbus State was the top individual finisher with a course record time of 23:36.
USC Aiken will next run in the 2010 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Charlotte, N.C.
