USC Aiken Cruises To Doubleheader Sweep of Converse For Snyder's 700th Win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team defeated Converse by scores of 8-0 and 2-0 Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader match-up.

The Pacers improve to 9-1 on the season while Converse falls to 2-8.

The game two victory marked head coach Jerry Snyder's 700th of his illustrious career.

In the opener, Snyder inserted sophomore Lyndie Dorgan in the circle and she responded with a three-hit shutout. Dorgan started off slowly as the visitors had the bags full in the first before she forced a pop fly and a strikeout to end the threat.

USC Aiken opened the game up in the second frame as Lilly Shoaf walked and moved to second on Julianne Leduc's bunt single. With one down, Brielle Jungblut drew a walk to load the bases.

Sarah Montei roped a single up the middle for what turned out to be the game-winning hit as two Pacers trotted home. Samantha Chubb followed her up with a two-RBI double to center field for a 4-0 advantage.

USC Aiken went back to work in the third as Sydney Murphy singled to the gap in right center field and scooted to second on a wild pitch. With two down, Magan Thrower laced an opposite-field single that plated Murphy for the 5-0 margin.

The Pacers concluded the game by putting three runs on the board in the fifth stanza. With one down, Shoaf doubled and Leduc followed her up with a walk. Thrower doubled home Shoaf for a 6-0 lead. Kelli Shealy came in as a pinch hitter and recorded a sacrifice fly, plating Leduc. Karly Kinard's RBI single scored Thrower, ending the contest at 8-0.

For the game, Chubb and Thrower each had a pair of hits. Chubb, Thrower and Montei all drove in two while Shoaf and Leduc each crossed home twice.

Dorgan was masterful, allowing just three batters over the minimum en route to improving to 2-0 on the season.

The second game proved to be more difficult, but Snyder's team jumped on top early and never looked back. With two down, Chubb belted her first round-tripper of the season for all the runs Hannah Price would need. USC Aiken added another run in the second after Thrower singled and swiped second. With one down, Leduc singled home Thrower for what turned out to be the final margin.

Price was dominant in the circle, striking out seven while allowing just three walks and three singles. She faced just five batters over the minimum.

Part of the highlights defensively was when Montei threw out a runner attempting to move to third base on an error.

The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they play at Newberry. The doubleheader is slated to start at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
