Each week throughout the 2016 USC Aiken women's basketball season, the sports information office will produce weekly notes.
It's Miller Time!
Over the summer, USC Aiken hired
Mark Miller away from Holy Family University. Miller had taken his teams to the NCAA Tournament seven times over a 10-year stretch. During that time, Miller compiled a 223-74 record. He posted a 30-3 mark during the 2009-10 campaign. That season, his team made it to the NCAA East Region Championship (Sweet 16). Miller has won double-digit games in every season, including 20-or-more games seven times.
Bulldog Turned Pacer
Newcomer
Jasmine Carter spent her first two college years at the University of Georgia. Coming out of high school, she was ranked as high as the No. 18 shooting guard in the country. Carter should make an immediate impact on the team and gives the offense another high-powered attack with her uncanny ability to knock down shots.
Ready To Get Back In The Ring
Senior Rachelle "Rocky" Aupont missed part of her first season with the Pacers due to an injury. Prior to her injury, Aupont averaged 9.3 points and six boards a game. She showed her athleticism by netting a school-record 15 points in the fourth quarter in a victory at Lander. After rehabbing her injury, Aupont once again looks to get onto the court and make an impact this season.
All Grown Up
This year's team has five seniors on the squad, including four that have been with the program since the 2013-14 year. It marks the fourth year for
Jasmine Coach,
Kate Duff,
Carly Gilreath and
Alexis Ware. Rachelle "Rocky" Aupont came into the program last year and will finish off her collegiate career this season.
Emry's Energy
Junior
Emry Tsitouris missed most of last season due to an injury. However, the Monroe, N.C., native is back and brings an abundance of energy to the squad. The low-post threat has averaged just over 11 points per game in her one-plus seasons on the court. With a new season on the horizon, look for Tsitouris to make an impact on her teammates with the energy and skill set she brings to the court.
Keeping It Local
The USC Aiken women's basketball team has a local feel to it. Although the Pacers have recruits from all over, three reside within shouting distance of campus.
Sade Johnson hails from Aike, S.C., while
Jasmine Coach is from North Augusta, S.C. Just across the river is freshman
Kwajelin Farrar's hometown of Grovetown, Ga.
From The Land Down Under
Kate Duff returns for her fourth year with the program. The senior from Perth, Australia, has seen time in 87 contests, earning 20 starts. Through three years, Duff has averaged five points and two boards a contest.
Brand New Five
This season, USC Aiken welcomes five newcomers to the mix. The squad has redshirt-sophomore transfer
Jasmine Carter into the fold. Additionally, the team has embraced the four freshmen in
Kwajelin Farrar Melyk Taouil,
Celine Vega and
Emily Waters.
Inside The Numbers
This week, USC Aiken plays on Friday and Saturday. The team is 31-20 in games played on Friday since moving to Division II (60.8 percent) while the squad is 153-145 in Saturday games (51.3 percent). This marks the first time in the Division II era the team will play on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12.
Against The Opponents
This week, USC Aiken takes on Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial to start the season. The Pacers are 3-5 in the all-time series against the Eagles while the squad is 3-1 in the all-time series against the Railsplitters.
