Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision at Flagler Friday evening. Set scores were 25-12, 25-14, 25-22.
The Pacers are now 17-11 on the season and 9-8 against conference foes.
Leading the way for head coach
Glenn Cox's squad was
Ashley Diedrich, who hammered home a squad-best six kills.
Endea Ellison,
Taylor Stratton and
Hannah Tierney all accounted for five kills while
Amanda Bologna, Aly Johnson and
Sheila Walsh chipped in two apiece.
Walsh dished out a team-high 12 assists while Bologna distributed eight.
Behind the service line, Tierney split the defense for two aces as did
Monica Cardona.
Katie Toman chipped in the other ace for the team.
Danielle Mercer and Walsh shared team-high honors with seven digs apiece while Cardona added six.
The lone tandem block of the night came from Ellison and Diedrich.
For the match, the Pacers hit just .066 by registering 27 kills against 21 errors in 91 attacks. The team improved throughout the match, but was unable to get on the board after a slow start in a match that was delayed by over an hour.
After dropping the first two frames, Cox's team came out and took a 10-9 lead on a kill by Bologna. The team fell behind 12-11, but went on a spurt to take a 15-12 lead. During the run, Diedrich powered home a kill before Tierney notched on ace. An attack error by the home team and the block by Ellison and Diedrich pushed the margin to three at 15-12.
With the score tied at 21, a miscue by the Saints pushed the score to 22-21 in favor of USC Aiken. However, Flagler reeled off four straight points to secure the win.
The Pacers return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. in Savannah, Ga., against Armstrong. It marks the final regular-season match of the year for the squad.
