AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken senior
Keely Gillespie earned her second career win, capturing the Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational Friday afternoon.
Gillespie recorded a time of 20:16.94 on the 5k course. Trailing by 10 meters in the final 200, she closed the gap and raced past Georgia College's Lena White for the win.
The USC Aiken cross country team came in third place overall, besting both Morris College, Paine College and Coker.
The meet was the fourth of the season for the Pacers.
Alexis Harvin improved over two weeks ago, producing a time of 22:42.2 to take 12th in the field.
Brittany May was the third Pacer to finish, placing 18th overall with a time of 23:56.3.
Kayla Millholland and
Lauren Hodge weren't far behind May, placing 20th and 21st overall. They crossed the line at 24:32.8 and 24.41.8, respectively.
Colleen Cirillo rounded out the USC Aiken student-athletes with a time of 27:28, taking 27th.
"I think it was great," head coach Kara Kreutzer said. "We had some good competition here. We had fairly solid times and Keely was able to pull out a win on her birthday."
This was both Gillespie's and Hodge's last home meet.
Georgia College won the meet while Francis Marion took second overall.
The Pacers return to action on Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. when the squad takes part in the FMU Invitational. It marks the last regular-season meet for the team.
