Box Score 2 AIKEN, S.C. - The No. 24 USC Aiken softball team (12-8, 4-4 PBC) dropped their conference double header with Peach Belt Conference newcomer Flagler College (14-11, 2-0 PBC) Sunday, Mar. 7. The Saints shut out the Pacers in the first game 6-0, and held on to win the second game 6-3.
The Saints dominated the first game getting six hits on eight hits and three Pacer errors. Heather Hill led the Saints at the plate going 2-for-2 with one run scored while Chelsea Welch came in and chipped in one run, one hit, and two RBIs of her own.
Haley Justice (North Augusta, S.C./Midland Valley) was a perfect 1-for-1 at the dish for the Pacers. In total, four Pacers recorded just one hit on the afternoon.
Kelly Riddick earned the win in the circle for the Saints fanning eight Pacers at the plate. She moves to just over .500 on the season at 8-7.
Senior hurler
Toni Flessate (Goose Creek, S.C./Stratford) suffered the loss in the first game for the Pacers striking out seven batters but giving up eight hits. The loss drops her to 6-2 on the 2010 campaign.
The second game proved to be closer as three Pacers were able to cross the plate to score for USC Aiken. Juniors
Lauren Locklear (Charleston, S.C./Wando) and
Blair Warren (Darlington, S.C./Florence-Darlington Tech) as well as Flessate all led the Pacers with one run each.
Freshman Brand Bossle (North East Md./Rising Sun) led the Pacers at the plate by securing two hits in three at bats. She also had one RBI.
Six different Saints scored Flagler's six points in the contest. Kaley King led the Saints at the plate going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
USC Aiken put themselves up on the board first in the bottom of the first inning but the lead was short lived as the Saints sent two runners across the plate to take the lead. The Saints would never look back after Kaycee Lisa sent a ball over the left field fence to score herself and Chelsea Welch.
The Saints secured another two runs in the top of the third to put the score at 4-1 before the Pacers could answer back with a pair of runs of their own. Flessate and Warren both crossed the plate in the inning for the Pacers to keep the score at 4-3.
The Saints would go on to score twice more, once in the top of the fourth, and finally in the top of the seventh inning. The Pacers had several chances to with runners on the bags, but were never able to overcome the deficit.
Brandy Luke secured the win in the circle for Flagler in four innings of work. The win improves her to 1-0 on the season.
Senior Kathleen Nicols took the loss for USC Aiken fanning five batters. She drops to 0-3 for the 2010 campaign.
The Pacers will close out their six-date home stint by hosting the Bulldogs of Wingate for a non-conference double header at J.H. Satcher Field on Wednesday, Mar. 10. The first pitch of the first game is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the second game to follow at around 4 p.m.
