Box Score 2 SALISBURY, N.C. - The USC Aiken softball team went on the road and split their doubleheader with Catawba on Saturday. The Pacers went down the Indians in the first game, 3-2, but rallied back to take the win in the second game, 7-6.
In the first game of the twinbill, the Indians took the early lead in the bottom of the first with a home run by Kathryn Geouge, earning her an RBI.
The Pacers jumped back in front in the top of the third with two runs. A pair of singles to center field by
Lindsey Jones (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta High School) and
Lauren Locklear (Charleston, S.C./Wando High School) got the Pacers on base.
Toni Flessate (Goose Creek, S.C./Stratford High School) picked up an RBI for bringing Jones in on another single to right center and advanced Locklear to third.
Kelley King (Chesterfield, S.C./Chesterfield High School) brought Locklear in for the second run with a single to left center.
Catawba rallied back in the bottom of the seventh to snatch the lead and the win from the Pacers with a two-run homer by Allie Marshall.
Pitcher Kathleen Nicols (Orange City, Fla./Daytona Beach CC) takes the loss for the Pacers on the mound. She is now 0-1 in the 2010 season. The Indians' Brittany Murray took the win on the mound, allowing two runs off seven hits with four strikeouts.
Game two started out with a homer by Flessate to give the Pacers an early lead in the first inning.
The Indians took the lead again in the bottom of the third with three runs including a home run by Tara Gibbs, earning her two RBIs.
Down 3-1, the Pacers scored twice in the top of the sixth.
Kaylah Hall (Jacksonville, Fla./Edward H White High School) batted a single to center and was brought across the dish by
Blair Warren's (Darlington, S.C./Florence Darlington Tech) triple to right center, earning her an RBI. A single to left field by
Kellie Hair (Aiken, S.C./Aiken Tech) brought Warren in to score and earned Hair an RBI.
The Pacers then put up another four runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead to 7-3. With two players on base, Locklear drove home the go-ahead run bringing in
Whitney Clary (Newberry, S.C./Newberry High School) and advancing
Haley Justice (North Augusta, S.C./Midland Valley High School), who pinch ran for Flessate, to second. After Hall was put on base by a walk, Warren brought both Locklear and Justice home with a double to left center and earning Warren two RBIs.
The last run was brought in by a sacrifice hit to third base by Hair, which brought Hall across the dish.
The Pacers withstood a Catawba rally as Geouge led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run and Katie Huggins added a two-run homer with one out.
Lauren Rickabaugh (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta High School) was able to get the next two batters to finish the complete game and improve to 4-0. Rickabaugh, who pitched all seven innings in the contest, took the win for the Pacers on the mound with seven strikeouts.
Chelsea Claypole takes the loss for the Indians allowing four runs on two hits.
The No. 13 USCA Pacer softball team is now 6-2 for the season. The team will travel next to Lander to play a doubleheader on Thursday, Feb. 25. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
