Pacers Pull Away from Columbus State for Seventh Consecutive Victory

AIKEN, S.C. - Four Pacers in double figures and Michael Technow's second double-double in as many days helped lead the USC Aiken men's basketball team to its seventh straight victory in a 68-62 victory over Columbus State in Peach Belt Conference men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center.

The victory concludes a tough four games in seven days stretch for the Pacers, who were a perfect 4-0 on the week. USC Aiken has not lost since falling to Francis Marion on Dec. 2 in Florence, S.C. The Pacers will have the opportunity for some revenge in their next outing against Francis Marion, which is scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at the Convocation Center. The game is the second game of a men's and women's PBC twinbill at the Convocation Center with the USC Aiken women slated to take on the FMU women prior to the men's game at 5:30 p.m.

The streaking Pacers will enter the crucial PBC East Division showdown against the Patriots with a 9-3 record overall. The Pacers are now 4-1 in the PBC.

USC Aiken are also now 31-2 inside the Convocation Center entering the PBC East Division showdown with the Patriots. The Pacers are 21-1 against PBC opposition since the Convocation Center opened its doors prior to the 2007-08 campaign.

In a game in which the lead swapped hands 10 times and had seven ties, Columbus State opened the first 13 minutes of Sunday's game by rushing out to a seven-point 26-19 lead at the 7:43 mark of the first half.

USC Aiken would close out the stanza by going on a 17-10 run to leave the game tied at 36-36 entering intermission. USC Aiken was a sizzling 12 of 25 (48 percent) from the floor in the first half.

USC Aiken and Columbus State would play close for the most of the second half with USC Aiken holding a slight 61-60 lead with 6:05 remaining in the game.

The Pacers would only score seven more points, but a 7-2 run over the final 6:05 of the contest led USC Aiken to the six-point 68-62 victory. The six-point margin was the largest lead of the day for the Pacers.

Technow's second consecutive double-double and third of the 2009-10 season was made possible by a strong second half that saw him score eight points and bring down four caroms to finish with a total of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Technow was 50 percent from the floor in the contest, hitting on six of his 12 shot attempts. He also had a block.

Byron Faison (Sumter, S.C./Winthrop) ended Sunday's game with 13 total points and four assists. He was 3 for 4 from the free throw line.

Mark Brown (Charlotte, N.C./Hickory Grove Christian) and Casey McMasters (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) were the final Pacers in double figures. Both had 10 in the game.

Columbus State concluded the game with four players in double figures with Lamar Williams leading the way with 16 points. Williams never came out of Sunday's game.

USC Aiken ended its day shooting 42 percent (21 of 50). The Cougars were 21 for 52 (40.4 percent) from the floor in the loss to the Pacers.

The USC Aiken-Francis Marion doubleheader will be Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day at the Convocation Center. During the men's game as always there will be the Burger King Breakfast Shot for a Car where one fan will have the opportunity to take a shot for a free car!
