Chris Commons led the Pacers to a 93-67 win over Wingate University with his team-high 24 points in USC Aiken's home opener on Saturday November 16 at the Convocation Center.
Coming out of halftime, the Cardinal and Navy were leading by 22 points, which they never trailed again. The lead was changed three times with the Pacers biggest margin of 29 points coming in the second half.
Commons added seven rebounds and three assists for the Pacers, while junior guard
Seth Leonard totaled seven rebounds for nine points.
The Bulldogs Chase Smith led the team with 11 points, going 3-for-6 from the floor and perfect from three-point range and the line. David Johnson added five rebounds with only four points.
Playing in his first game as a Pacer, junior forward
Josh Dollard, shot 7-for-8 from the floor, getting one three and one free throw. He also had four defensive rebounds and an assist.
Senior guard Kinglsey Oguchi added 16 points for the Pacers, going 5-for-7 from the floor, 4-for-5 behind the arc and 2-for-2 at the line. He also added one defensive rebound and two assists.
Senior guard Cordaryl Ballard tallied 13 points, going 6-for-8 from the floor and 1-for-2 behind the arch. Also getting more than 10 points for the Cardinal and Navy was junior guard
Mark Brown with 11.
USCA, as a team, was 72% from behind the arch, while holding the Bulldogs to 44% at the three-point range.
The Pacers will return to the floor when they travel to Mount Olive, NC to participate in the 43rd Mount Olive Pickle Classic on November 21-22. USCA will first play Barton on Friday at 5:30 p.m. followed by the host Mount Olive on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
