ROCK HILL, S.C. - Senior
Marcie Milner clocked a time of 21:03 to finish five seconds ahead of Spartanburg Methodist's Jocelyn Veit to win the individual title at the 2006 Asics/Winthrop Invitational on Saturday morning. The 5K race was held in Rock Hill, S.C. and consisted of two divisions, a "university" and a "college" grouping. USC Aiken placed third out of 10 schools in the college division.
Fellow Peach Belt Conference member Lander won the team title with 69 total points after placing three runners inside the top 15. Presbyterian just edged out the Lady Pacers with 88 points, four better than USCA's 92. Spartanburg Methodist (99) was fourth followed by Warren Wilson (131), Newberry (144), Converse (144), Benedict (171), Belmont Abbey (193), and Limestone (216).
"Running on tired legs after a hard week of training, this team showed well," said first-year head coach Larry Milner.
For Milner, it marks her first career title, and the first for the program since Kelley Shemansky's win on October 13, 2001 at the Patriot Invitational in Florence, S.C. The Aiken native's previous best finish was fifth.
