ORLANDO, Fla. - The USC Aiken women's cross country placed 27th in a field of 36 teams representing NCAA Divisions I and II plus NAIA and junior colleges at the 2006 Disney Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning. BYU won the team title. The 5K event was held at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Jael Koech of Florida Southern College captured the individual crown with a time of 17:52.03, almost two seconds ahead of Florida Atlantic's Iki Feil.
USC Aiken was led yet again by senior
Marcie Milner. The Aiken, S.C. native crossed the line in a time of 21:19.89 to place 124th out of the 287-runner field.
In the team standings, IPFW (94) was second behind BYU's 35 points. Milligan College (129) claimed third while Hofstra (147) and Florida Atlantic (149) rounded out the top five. Aside from their 27th place finish in the 36 team field, the Lady Pacers were 13th out of 21 non-Division I squads competing.
Senior
Jen Mascarin finished 162nd with a time of 22:13.53 while freshman
Jani Linde was just seven spots back in 169th place at 22:17.81. Sophomores
Renea Marshall and Alley Dachenhaus were 192nd and 197th respectively at 22:51.25 and 22:54.00. Senior
Melissa Price rounded out the USCA contingent in 261st place with a time of 26:18.97.
With their regular season now complete, USC Aiken will have two weeks to prepare for the 2006 Peach Belt Conference Championships on October 21 in Columbus, Ga.
