SMITH STATION, Ala. - The USC Aiken women's cross country team placed ninth in the Peach Belt Conference cross country championships held Saturday. Columbus State narrowly edged out runner-up Clayton State by two points to best the field of ten and win the conference. The 5K event took place at the J.D. Evilsizer Sports Complex in Smith Station, Ala.
Clayton's Angela Cobb won the event with a time of 17:20.49 while her teammate Allison Kreutzer finished the race in 17:27.77 for second-place. Despite claiming the top two spots, the Lady Lakers were unable to hold of the Lady Cougars, who had all five of their runners land in the top 17.Â
Senior
Marcie Milner, who holds the USCA school record time, again led the Lady Pacers as she crossed the finish line in 20:51.02 to finish 32nd. The senior led the team in all seven events this fall and broke her own school record in the first event of the year with a run of 19:57.Â
Alley Dachenhaus was next to finish for the Lady Pacers, as the sophomore finished just four seconds after Milner in 36th with a run of 20:55.35. Freshman
Jani Linde was not far behind, as her time of 21:00.50 left her in 38th.Â
Rounding out the top-5 for the Lady Pacers were
Renea Marshall and
Jen Mascarin. Marshall, a sophomore, took 46th place in 21:14.90 while Mascarin, a senior, finished just behind her in 48th after a run of 21:26.82. Senior
Melissa Price also ran for USC Aiken, coming in 61st with a time of 23:18.71.
