Box Score AIKEN, S.C.--Dean Mitchell tossed a complete game holding USC Aiken (11-6) to just one run on five hits as Trevecca Nazarene (16-8) posted the 4-1 win over the Pacers on a blustery evening at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. With the loss, just USCA's second in 11 games at home this season, the Pacers have dropped three-straight.
Chad Hitchcock's two-out single to shortstop scored Bubba Norris for the game's first run in the top of the fifth. The Trojans added another tally in the sixth on an RBI single by Stipe Miocic.
The Pacers finally got on the board in the home half of the sixth when
Daniel Quartararo's single to left field was misplayed allowing
Casey Derhak to score from second base to make it a 2-1 game. Derhak led USCA going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Brandon Barenie and
Michael Wadowski joined Quartararo as the only other Pacers with hits.
Craig Ballentine slapped a two-run single to right field with the bases loaded in the eighth to set the final margin at 4-1. Brad Coon and Kyle Jackson, hitters one and two in the Trojan lineup, accounted for four of the team's eight hits.
Mitchell (2-1) allowed just the one unearned run on five hits and one walk, striking out six in the complete game victory.
Jon Paul (1-1) tossed a solid 5.0 innings giving up two earned runs on four hits and one walk, but was the hard-luck loser.
USC Aiken and Trevecca Nazarene will conclude their two-game series tomorrow at 12:00 PM.
