USC Aiken Drops Two On Final Day Of Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.--All good things must come to an end and unfortunately that happened to the USC Aiken volleyball team (9-3) on Saturday afternoon at the Carson-Newman Tournament. Riding an eight-match winning streak and off to the program's best start in NCAA history at 9-1, the youthful Lady Pacer squad dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions. Carson-Newman knocked off the Lady Pacers in the first match by scores of 33-31, 30-22, and 30-20. Lincoln Memorial defeated USCA in the finale by scores of 30-23, 30-28, and 32-30.

In the match versus Carson-Newman, USC Aiken was looking to avenge its only blemish of the season thus far, but it was not to be. The Lady Pacers hit just .161 for the match including an .071 in the third game in falling in three games.

"We played a tremendous game one, but just could not get back on track," said USCA head coach Will Condon. "It was a disappointing match because I know they put a lot of effort into it. We just got out of our system and could not get it back. With the youth on this team and only having played 11 matches, for this to be the first time we had this [getting out of our system] happen is an amazing achievement."

Jenny Lloyd was the lone Lady Pacer in double figures in points or kills. The senior captain had 15 kills, 11 digs, and one block. Sophomore Laura Williams had six kills and one block hitting .375. Setter Rachel Dalitz added three kills, two aces, six digs, and two blocks to go with 30 assists.

USC Aiken had now lost three-straight to Carson-Newman but still leads 4-3 in the all-time series with the Lady Eagles.

In the final match of the tournament for USCA, Lincoln Memorial pulled out a close game two and three for the 3-0 win.

Lloyd recorded her 71st career double-digit kill performance and her 13th career 20+ kill match with 20 kills, eight digs, and one ace for 21.0 points and a .357 hitting percentage. The rest of the team, however, hit just .179.
Williams and freshman Missy Deardorff each hit over .300 and tallied eight kills. Freshman Veronica Seidle had a team-best 14 digs. Dalitz again led the team in aces with four to go with five digs and 39 assists.

"We started a little slow with a bad taste still in our mouth from the previous match," said Condon. "We had opportunities to get in the match, but just could not get a consistent run together. We played real hard in games two and three, but just hurt ourselves with little things."

USC Aiken returns home to host Converse College on Tuesday, September 14 at 7:00 PM. The Lady Pacers are a perfect 4-0 thus far at "The Courthouse".
