The 36-hole event was contested at the 6,541 yard, par 72 Hombre Golf Course in Panama City, Fla. USCA out distanced all but the Argonauts in the 16-team field. Kennesaw State (+41) finished 10 shot back of the Pacers (+31) in third place, Georgia College & State (+42) was fourth, Columbus State (+51) placed sixth, and UNC Pembroke (+54) rounded out the Peach Belt Conference contingent in seventh position.Â
Burkhart, last year's PBC Freshman of the Year, opened play on Monday with a two-over-par 74 and sat in ninth place. But a three-under-par 69 in Tuesday's final round catapulted the South Aiken High School product to his second career title. Burkhart eagled the par four 18th on Tuesday to win the title outright by two strokes over Matthew Berzovich of West Florida.Â
Sophomore
James McGhee registered his second career top 10 finish, tying for eighth with an eight-over-par total of 152. Senior Bryan Sangid carded scores of 77 and 79 to tie for 23rd at 12-over-par. Sophomore
Reggie Bergholtz was one shot back of Sangid in a tie for 25th at 13-over-par.Â
Sophomore Scott Brown improved on an opening round 85 with a 78 on Tuesday in his first action as a member of the Pacers in over a year and a half. The 2002 PBC Tournament individual champion, did not play for USCA last season, but returned as a member of the squad beginning this January.Â
USC Aiken will next compete in the AASU/Southbridge Pirate Invitational hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State on February 23-24 in Savannah, Ga.
