Box Score SAVANNAH, GA.--Fifth-seeded USC Upstate (16-14) hit .309 and had four players in double figures in kills in upsetting fourth-seeded USC Aiken (21-13) 3-1 in quarterfinal action at the 2004 Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Tournament on Friday evening. Game scores were 28-30, 30-26, 30-26, and 30-18. The eight-team event is being hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State at the Aquatics and Recreation Center in Savannah, Ga.
Senior
Jenny Lloyd notched 20 kills, 16 digs, and five service aces hitting .357 in her final match as a Lady Pacer. The 5-11 captain from Fife, Wash. notched double-digit kills in all 34 matches this season giving her a PBC record 92 for her career. With 597 kills she also breaks her own school record for kills in a season (583) set last year.
Freshman
Veronica Seidle added 10 kills and eight digs while
Mandy Gerolstein chipped in nine kills and two blocks. Setter
Rachel Dalitz recorded five kills, 13 digs, and two aces to go with 45 assists.
Sophomore Stephanie Coff led the Spartans with 20 kills and 13 digs. Amber Glass tallied 16 kills while Mandy Rupert and Kristen Kunz added 14 and 11 kills respectively. Setter Shannon Pallardy registered 56 assists and nine digs.
After taking game one 30-28 with a .351 hitting percentage, the Lady Pacers hit under .200 in dropping the next two games by identical scores of 30-26.
In game four, trailing 14-8, the Lady Pacers notched three straight kills by Gerolstein, Seidle, and
Missy Deardorff to draw within three at 14-11. But a 4-0 counter run again created sizable separation at 22-14 as the Spartans went on to the 30-18 win.
After splitting their regular season series with each winning on their home court, USC Upstate improves to 20-11 in the all-time series with the neutral court win.
USC Aiken closes out its most successful season since 2000 and will lose just three seniors from the squad for 2005.
